View full detailsHiking gear for day hikes, trekking and outdoor travel. This collection focuses on practical trail equipment such as navigation tools, headlamps, first aid and emergency gear, compact field tools and other essentials that support safety, visibility and self-sufficiency on the route.
For a day hike, keep the setup simple: navigation, water, weather protection, lighting, a basic first aid kit and a comfortable backpack. Match the amount of gear to route length, weather and how far you will be from roads or assistance.
Longer trips require more redundancy and planning. Add spare lighting or power, emergency warmth, food, water treatment or storage, and route-specific tools. Pair your trail gear with a suitable hiking backpack and the wider camping and hiking range.
Forest trails, bog boardwalks, coastal routes and winter hikes place different demands on equipment. Prioritize low weight for long walking days, but do not remove critical safety items just to save grams.
Read our Hiking in Latvia: Bears, Wolves, and Practical Risk Management for Tourists guide for route-safety planning and practical outdoor risk management.
